Although it has been a crazy busy summer, I did manage to squeeze in a little bit of fun and visit a couple of (new or new to me) spots in town. I’m going to attempt to catch up on sharing some of those adventures and recommendations starting with my first and second visit to The Root Cafe on South Main Street. The first visit happened on a Saturday morning in June. The second visit occurred the very next day! The place is that good! My cousin and I tried it on Saturday morning and fell in love with it. We couldn’t resist going back the very next morning, and it was just as good the second go around. Everything is made from fresh, local ingredients. The staff is friendly. The atmosphere is comfortable and charming. Just get there early as they are usually quite busy and seating is limited.
This (I believe) was the iced cafe mocha. I should have written this post sooner so I could remember all of the details. Anyway, it was absolutely delicious. I also tried the fresh lemonade-also a must try! Amazing! Little signs like this are placed on the tables to provide information about the local farmers who provide the ingredients for the food being served.
Sadly I don’t recall the name of this dish. It was a special for the day and not on their regular menu (which you can read here). Eggs, sausage and corn cakes? It was yummy!
Thought I’d share a glimpse of the lovely beverage selection. These are available should you choose to ignore my previous advice to order the cafe mocha or the lemonade. Hahaha!
Even the salt and pepper shakers were begging to be photographed. Ah ha! The pièce de ré·sis·tance! The Root Benny! Words cannot do this meal justice. You simply must try it! My mouth waters just looking at the photo. Can I eat there again in the morning? Every morning? This is one of the charming outdoor seating areas. There is another around to the side and more tables in the garden. A few more tables are located inside. Overall it isn’t a very big place so be prepared for a little bit of a wait. Darn it! Who ate my breakfast?
Of course, I had to snap few shots of some of the flowers growing in the small garden yard seating area.
What are you waiting for? If you live in the area or are traveling through, you need to try this place. On second thought…maybe you shouldn’t. Maybe I should keep this great place to myself. If I tell you guys, the line might grow even longer, and they might run out of cafe mocha before I get to order. What a horrendous tragedy that would be! Oh well, I guess I will take my chances. It’s simply too good to keep to myself. Have you already eaten here? Any other suggestions as to what else we should try…(that is if I can resist ordering the Root Benny)?
