Oh San Francisco! I must say I really like this city. I must also say that I am quite proud of myself for successfully navigating its streets without dinging the rental car. It is very much like driving on a roller coaster. Up and down and all around. At some intersections all you can see is the sky while you are sitting at the red light. It was quite the experience. By the time I arrived at the hotel, I was fine with letting them take the car and park it safely.
I visited for training with my work, but had the evenings open to wander around. I’ve been to the city before, but I’ve never stayed directly in it or spent an significant time walking its streets. Walking is absolutely the best way to really experience this place, but be prepared for quite a work out! Up, up, up…down, down, down. One evening my phone said I had walked 6.1 miles and climbed the equivalent of 24 flights of stairs.
One of my favorite things about this city was the smells. Yes. I know this is an odd thing to like in a city. Most cities don’t smell so great. However, as I walked around here I smelled the evergreen trees, saltwater, coffee, food of all types, and flowers. I also kept wondering if there is some special store where people here buy soap or lotion or something…even the people seemed to smell good. Well, not all the people. Haha. Of course there were some not good smells too: fish & fish, weed, garbage, some people, cigarette smoke, and oh, did I mention fish?
